Thank you, Kassa, for coming up with such a wonderful way for those of us who love romance to thank the amazing authors who give us so much enjoyment. When I started thinking about which author to write to, I decided to go with the one whose books move me most. It was an easy decision, Lisa Kleypas.
Dear Lisa -
I've told you this story, but I'm going to tell it again. About six years ago, my dad announced over Christmas mashed potatoes that he was going to need a triple bypass. Of course, my entire family was shocked. Even more so when he went in for the final heart catheterization and they found a 100% blockage in one of the arteries. The doctor could give him no medical reason why he hadn't had a massive heart attack. Anyway, my sister and I made the trip to North Carolina to be with my mom while my dad had his surgery. Before I left, I made a trip to Books-A-Million and picked up Again the Magic. My dad went into surgery at about 7 a.m. and my sister, mom and I went to the waiting area to sit and wait until the doctor came to see us. My sister and my mom got up pretty quickly to walk, as it made the time pass faster for my mom. Me? I heaved a sigh, and sat in that uncomfortable chair, and opened Again the Magic. Soon I was caught up in Aline and McKenna's story. Their sweet teenage romance, their split, the misunderstanding, and McKenna's return to Aline's life, embittered and bound and determined to get retribution. For hours, you took me away from the worry, and the fear.
Even though I had read your books before, and quite enjoyed them, Again the Magic is the book where you leap-frogged over other authors to become my favorite. Then, Squawk Radio came along. And I realized how truly nice you were - always welcoming, always kind to your readers. And I liked you even more.

Then you announced that you would be writing contemporary. I was so nervous. I worried that your talented hand with historicals wouldn't translate well to contemporary. Boy was I wrong. When Sugar Daddy came out, and I finally read it, your contemporary voice was a revelation. I wasn't sure about the first person, but I was immediately drawn to Liberty's voice. And as always, you wrote a hero to die for -- Gage Travis. Strong, dominant, and yet evolved. And I fell in love all over again. Then came Hardy Cates, the hero from Blue Eyed Devil, his strength and steadfastness pulled Haven from the abyss. And then, you followed with Jack Travis -- my favorite hero you've ever written. His incredible polish, his total dedication to Ella, his loyalty to his family, his alpha-ness, his care for Luke, Ella's nephew, his drive to convince Ella that not only could he take care of Ella and Luke, but that he could and would become the great love of her life. He blew me away. So much so, that I've probably re-read the Smooth Talking Stranger fifteen times. It's my favorite go-to comfort book. Every time I'm as swept away by his love and care as Ella.
Your deft ability, your sparkling dialogue, your likable heroines, and your dreamy and amazing heroes have combined to make you one of my all time favorite authors. So thank you, Lisa. Thank you for giving me hours and hours of enjoyment and entertainment. And for making me fall in love each and every time I open one of your books.
Kati
Next up is the fabulous Jenre. Her author blog will be up tomorrow.

Just lovely :) I now must go read Sugar Daddy.
What a wonderful letter! Again the Magic was one of the first historicals I'd read and I loved it!
Fabulous letter Kati! Hands down (as you already know) LK is my all-time favorite historical author. And I now adore her contemporaries - thanx to your strong recommendation. She is an amazing writer, rarely falling flat with me.
I recently re-read Again The Magic earlier this year because of how much you talked about it, and fell in love with it all over again :)
Great letter and wonderful author choice. Lisa Kleypas is a favorite of mine too - she's so talented!
:o)

Great letter! Like you describe here, the very best books will go beyond "mere entertainment" and give us readers escapism and relief from situations of great worry. This is fiction at its best. :)
Wonderful letter Kati. Okay you convinced me. Even tho I hate first person POV, I have to try Lisa's books.
Really great letter. I've never read anything by this author but have seen her name come up over and over again when people talk about their favourite romances. Super job.
Oh, Kati, I am so touched and honored--a huge THANK YOU! My children and my husband and I are all wretched with a cold and cough today--but reading your letter is the best possible medicine! Love right back to you!

Damn! You just got a response from Lisa?! So, so jealous! But, WOW! Anyone who pimps her books like you do deserves the accolades :)
Perfect! Nothing more I can say.
What a wonderful letter, Kati. I've read a few of Lisa's books and always enjoyed them.
Wonderful letter, Kati! I love books that can take you to another world especially when you're in such sorrowful circumstances. I must start reading Smooth Talking Stranger soon, since you speak so highly of it and it's been waiting on my ereader for a while now. :)
Lisa - Thank you SO much for coming by, especially when you're so under the weather. It means a lot to have you visit my blog. I meant every word, you know!
Feel better soon!
Kati
Kati, thanks to you, I do feel better! I'm going to print out your letter to read whenever I get a paralyzing case of "the humbles."
I just watched "Enchanted" with my 9 year old, and she and I agreed that Patrick Dempsey is a great cure for the common cold ;)

It's a toss up to me between Lisa and one other author as to who I would write a letter too. Both are simply wonderful writers and humble people. Both have lifted me up during bad times in my life and made me smile and laugh when I didn't think I had it in me.
Isn't it special when an author can do this for us?
I've yet to try any of this author's contemporaries, but always greatly enjoyed her historicals. I must do something about that asap. :)
Great letter, Kati!
Kati, what a perfectly lovely letter! Lisa is one of my go-to authors for a book I will love!
What a marvellous letter, Kati. Lisa Kleypas is one of my favourite historical romance writers too. Although I must be the only one of her fans who isn't keen on Again the Magic. My favourite is definitely Devil in Winter - who can resist a bad boy like Sebastian?
I have an entire bookshelf dedicated to the abfab Lisa Kleypas. I'm so glad she got a chance to read your wonderful letter. This inspires me to take out my favorites again.
Thanks for participating!
What a wonderful letter! I started my Kleypas reading with her contemporary series but quickly moved on to her fabulous historicals. She's one of my favorite authors too.
Awesome letter! I've passed by many a book shelf with Lisa Kleypas on it, this is a sign I need to read this author!!!
What a lovely letter. (adding this author to my must read list!)
That's an amazing letter Kati! I read Again the Magic after hearing you chat about it and I'm so so glad I did. It was an amazing book and that scene near the end gets me every time.
I've been very remiss at reading STS, even though Blue-Eyed Devil had such an impact on me, but it's near the top of my TBR list and I hope to tackle it next month. I can't wait!
Oh I love this letter..
I was also concern when she went Contemporary - but she does have a style all her own and it comes through and I love her contemp stuff just as much as her historicals..

What a beautiful letter and tribute Kati. I've heard so much about Ms. Kleypas's work - all rave reviews but haven't had the opportunity to read her yet. I do have "Smooth Talking Stranger" in my stacks though.
Thank you so much for sharing, you've made me want to read her work.
