OK, Wendy and Lori got me to thinking I needed to add a few more photos. So here are a few more w/grades. (These are clearly in no particular order).

Sarah Jessica Parker: I sort of get what she's going for here. But it's a huge miss for me. It's pillow case-ish, and the bun in the back is just awful. I mean, it's like she had a massive fashion aneurysm or something. I expect more from someone who is a fashion icon.
Grade: D-
As an aside: Scott and I got into a disagreement last night over who is a bigger icon: Matthew Broderick as Ferris Buehler or SJP as Carrie Bradshaw. I say SJP, he maintains it's Broderick. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Queen Latifah: I think the secret to being a larger woman on the red carpet is to FIT THE HELL out of your dresses. They need to be perfectly fitted, and then frankly, you need to be trussed up like a Thanksgiving turkey underneath. Clearly, Queen Latifah gets this. On top of that, this is an amazingly flattering color on her, and it makes her skin absolutely luminous. Combined with the jewels on the dress, and the bling bling in her ears, this is perfection!
Grade: A

Meryl Streep: I think we can all agree that La Meryl is very, very hit or miss on the red carpet. But I like this. It was apparently designed by a Project Runway designer, and I think it's flattering. Plus, again, she did her hair! Go Meryl!
Grade: B+
Grade: B+

Kate Winslet: I adore this woman. I hate that she's gotten so skinny, but her taste is practically flawless. Last awards season was sublime just because she was at every awards show dressed to the nines. When I originally saw this dress, I felt it was really reminiscent of a dress Cate Blanchett wore a few years ago. But I'm wrong, it's not at all. Anyway, Winslet looks glorious in metallic and any kind of shimmery fabric. This is no exception. Plus, the jewels are eye poppers! I guess I wish her lipstick was a bit darker, but other than that, she looks exquisite.
Grade: A-
Grade: A-

Demi Moore: I don't love it. I think it's not good when your skin tone and the dress match that closely. Plus, has she had more plastic surgery? She barely looks like herself anymore.
Grade: C

Funny you posted those paerticular pictures, because I had meant to say that I hated Demi Moore's dress, and I hated SJP's as well.
And I agree, Queen Latifah looked absolutely gorgeous.
I also agree that it's a shame Kate Winslet got so skinny. After her baby was born, she looked real. And beautiful. It shouldn't have to be one or the other.
Oh, and as for iconic figures? Ferris all the way. I never watched SATC. I wouldn't recognize any of the character's names (ok, except Mr Big). But loads of quotes from Ferris worked their way into the vernacular and are still quoted almost 25 years later.
I'm totally with you on Demi's dress. I like the style on her, but the color was a major fashion don't.
QL I've not seen this woman look bad unless some costumer from hell put her in something bad for a movie role. The woman is Big, Bad and Beautiful
I didn't get SJP at all. I loved the scarf on her, but what's up with that metallic looking bodice??
Matthew Broderick hands down. Greg and Oldest can recite almost all the dialogue from that movie. Scary. *shudder*
I love Kate Winslet too, but I don't like her in silver. Red is her color.
I gotta go with Matthew Broderick on this one. Ferris stands the test of time....not sure Sex in the City will hold up.
Loved Q L's dress..I also loved SJP too..I found it to be very classy. Didn't like her hair though!
I thought Queen Latifah looked fabulous--very classy!
I hated SJP's whole looks-- out-of-control ginormous bun on the back of her head and wearing a large satin pillow case. Ugh!
Demi has so had more plastic surgery! I agree, she doesn't look like herself anymore.
Liked Kate's dress, but wish it had been in a bright color.
I hated SJP's dress, but since I tend to hate everything she wears, this didn't come as a shock. And yes, I know that makes me uncool :)
Queen Latifah is so darn confident, I think that really helps her work the red carpet. She is a bigger woman, but she owns it, and obviously has the brains to pick someone who knows how to dress a full-figured woman. I so want to be QL if ever grow up.
People on Twitter were rippin' Sigourney's dress last night, but I really liked it quite a bit. It's a great color on her, age appropriate, and frankly she's one of the few actresses in Hollywood who is aging gracefully. Thought she looked beautiful.
Did Demi get skinnier?!? I liked the dress, but hated the color. She looks totally washed out.
And ditto on Meryl. Thought she looked really good last night.
Kati - gotta agree on ALL your grades for the dresses. AND I must agree SJP over MB - Am I the only one who hasn't seen FBDO?
WTF? Demi looks like a totally different person! I'm glad you're doing this, I had to miss the Oscars!
Marisa, you haven't seen Ferris???? You must rectify that immediately! It's a classic. All three of my kids love it, too!
Kate Winslet is someone who seems to get it right nearly every time! So gorgeous!
I don't think I will ever understand why SJP is such a fashion icon. Certainly not for last night's dress!
You know what I noticed - there wasn't a whole lot of bling going on this year - 'specially round the neck bling.
And - I gotta go with Mathew Broderick too :-(
I love your synopses of the fashion at the various awards shows!
And I agree with you about Demi - she toned too well!
