It's been almost a week since I posted anything. My week was NUTS! We had this big huge reception on Capitol Hill on Thursday evening followed by a Board of Directors meeting on Friday and Saturday. Our reception on the Hill was my baby, and it was attended by our newest Board member, Ashley Judd. She's a lovely, lovely woman, although, to be a bit catty, not as tiny as I thought she'd be. Now granted, she hasn't been doing a movie lately, but I thought she'd be practically emaciated. Instead, she's just a regular sized person. Probably a size 6, in no way fat, or anything, just not as teeny, tiny as I thought she'd be. Her skin is luminous. I've never seen anything like it. Anyway, she did her appearance with us on Thursday, but then had to catch a flight out that night to get to Venice for "a friend's" wedding. Turns out that friend was Salma Hayek. Wow, huh?Anyway, with all the crazy going on, I didn't have much time to blog. Sorry 'bout that.

So, I'm reading Laird of the Mist by Paula Quinn. She's a new to me author, and I picked up the book after I read somewhere that JenB liked it. Since she's been on quite a historical kick lately, I though, hey why not? So far I'm enjoying it. There's nothing shocking or different about it, but the writing is very capable, and I quite like the heroine, who is smart and feisty, but so far not stupid in any way. And the hero is shaping up to be a type that I love, that whole "I'm totally honorable, and yet have a major grudge against your family" type. We'll see. But I'm about six chapters in and have found the book quite entertaining.
I ordered a bunch of books from Amazon, which arrived last week, so this is one. I also ordered Ann Aguirre's Blue Diablo, which has been quite positively reviewed by Katiebabs and CJ. Kmont was a little less enamored, but it's enough for me to pick it up. But I'll need to be in the right mindset for it, I think. I also picked up Dragonbound by Jade Lee, which got a good review from AAR. I've never read anything by Lee before, but I checked with Katiebabs, and she's liked stuff from Jade Lee before, so that's good enough for me. The last book I ordered was False Colors by Alex Beecroft, which I'm SO excited about. It got an almost gushy review from Sarah at Dear Author, and I love those sweeping, epic love stories. It's M/M, but the review was so glowing, I couldn't do anything but pick it up. I've got about six books coming from RNTV for review this week too, so looks like I'm set for a while. And just in time for it to get really hot here in DC. It's about time to start clocking some pool time! Woohoo!
I was all set to go yesterday to see The Soloist in the theater, but I just...wasn't in the mood. So I skipped it. This Saturday I'm going to have a Brazillian Keratin Treatment done on my hair, which should relax and defrizz it. I'm SO excited. The treatment lasts about 3-4 months on color treated hair, which should get me through most of the summer, woohoo! I can't wait! I'm sort of nervous, because it does use some strong ingredients, but if it will defrizz my hair for the summer, I'm all in!
Also, it's dawned on me that in a little less than two months I'll be on the beach for a week. Thus, I got back on the diet bandwagon yesterday by joining Weight Watchers again. I've put on about 10 pounds since I hit my goal weight. I'm quite sure I can't lose all 10 pounds before I go to the beach, but I can do 5-7, and that's what I'm going to do. I'd kind of blocked out how freaking hungry one gets on WW for the first couple of weeks until your stomach adjusts to having much less food in it. So, I'm both PMS-ing AND hungry. I should probably come with a warning label today.Did you do anything good this weekend? What are you reading? What's up in your life?

Miss Kati, so glad to see you posting. Very cool about Ashley Judd. I'm right there with ya on the catty, though even a size 6 is still pretty small, imo. Must be nice to be small, gorgeous, and glamorously jetting off to her gal pal's weddin'.
I've been trying to eat healthy these last few...days. It's HARD. I hate it. But I do notice I feel more energetic eating veggies instead of a cheeseburger. It just takes a lot more veggies to fill me up.
Got Jo Davis' latest to read, which will be winging its way to you. I've been re-reading a lot lately, not much new to report. Can't wait to see ya next week :)
Thank you for the link to False Colors. After reading the review on DA I'm sold - it's definitely going on my TBB list.
Glad to hear your reception went well. I love Ashley Judd and her skin is amazing, isn't it? You can tell just from film that it's perfect...yes, I'm jealous! :)
Is the Brazilian treatment for your hair a conditioner and that's why it de-frizzes? Curious cuz mine can get that way too. :)
I came up with a few warning labels for you. Funny how easy it was for me......
"Hungry Hormonal Woman Ahead. Approach At Your Own Risk"
"Proceed with Caution"
"GTF Away!"
"I EAT Stupid People"
"Feed Me Chocolate or Die"
"GTF Away!"Perfect!
Tracy, yes, it's for my hair. It's expensive, but everyone I've talked to who has had it done calls it "Life Changing". That's good enough for me! I'll let you know once it's done how it turns out. I'm SO excited!
Go ALEX! Very nice person, fyi.
OK Kati-I need to do the ten pounds thing too, so I'm power walking 4 miles everyday. Mostly.
That wasn't catty about Ashley--we're led to believe that they are all a size -00. Nice to see that isn't true.
I watched two movies: Yes Man,, which was funny and at one point inappropriate for my 13 year old. I thought G was going to have a heart attack. I'm like--don't you remember 13???
ANd Little Girl and I watched Penelope. We loved it.
That is really awesome about meeting Ashley Judd. I am barely a size 10 and don't think I will ever be happy until I reach single digit size. Oh well.
Glad my recs help you :D
LBea - Have you read False Colors? The DA review was positively glowing, so I'm excited to jump in. I'll review it either way. I still need to pick up your new one! Hm, maybe this weekend!
Wow, 4 miles? I'm impressed, I do 25-30 minutes on the treadmill at 3.6 mph, which nets me about a mile and a half. I'm exhausted usually by the time I'm done. I do the randomizer setting on the treadmill, so I'm going up and down hills and stuff. But still I definitely don't think I could do 4 miles. But what I do earns me 2 extra WW points, which is quite appreciated! ;o)
KB, your recs almost always work for me. Plus you've read every book ever published, so you're my go to "Should I read this?" girl!
Kati - I'm so glad that your week went well. And I agree with you - Ashley's skin is just gorgeous!
Ohhh, I think I may have to go and read the DA's False Colors review! I keep wanting to add a 'u' in there :) I am really enjoying reading m/m at the moment! I'm currently reading a Julia London book...I'm enjoying it, which is good because after that is A Wallflower Christmas. Obviously, I'm on a historical bent :)
And I look forward to hearing how the hair treatment goes :)
UGH I need to get on the wagon and start losing some inches. I have to be in a wedding in November and know that if I don’t lose some inches I’m not going to be very happy with myself. It’s amazing how hard it is to get off my butt and do a 30 min workout tape! I mean it’s only 30 min’s but I just don’t want to lol.
Ashley Judd is GORGEOUS. Just stunning. I both love her and hate her for that. LOL
I'm glad you're liking the Paula Quinn book. You're right--there really is nothing outstanding about the book. The writing is fairly average (even irritatin in a few places...the head-hopping at the beginning drove me batty) and the story certainly isn't new. I think the characters are what make this book such a great one for me: a smart and capable heroine who never flings herself into TSTL territory, a passionate but level-headed hero, a likable supporting cast, and beautiful scenery that is so vivid it can almost be considered a character itself.
*sigh*
Yeah, I liked LOTM a lot. :)
Oh, Ashley Judd, I love her. And she's involved in such worthy causes IMO. Horrible about PMSing on a diet! Uh, the only consolation I give my PMS-self is that it's the one time I won't make myself diet. You'll get through it! I hope you like BD.
OMG, I ADORE Ashley Judd. I've not seen a movie with her in it that I didn't like. LOVED her in De-Lovely. Sounds like you've been busy. I've been thinking. Just thinking. Well that and being a filmmaker as I prepare Oldest's graduation video for her party. She's no idea I'm doing it, and I'm going to get her good with the baby in the washtub pic. ROFL Being a parent does come with perks. Bwwwwaaahahahahaha
