I promised Scott I'd ask opinions on this. As women, which word do you prefer being applied to you?If a guy tells you you're hot, is that better or worse than being told you're beautiful? Or sexy?
From my perspective, I'd rather be told I'm beautiful than hot or sexy. And Scott maintains that beautiful is a better compliment than hot or sexy, which I agree with.

When I look at someone like Catherine Zeta-Jones, I think she's beautiful. She can look hot or sexy, but generally speaking, I'd describe her as beautiful or Aishwarya Rai, who has been described as the most beautiful woman in the world.

I look at Scarlett Johansson, and I think "hot." She's got that sexy thing going on. She can look beautiful, but in general, she's hot.
What do you guys think? Which is the bigger compliment?

Kati - I'm not a guy - BUT I think beautiful is better.
Hot and Sexy imply one thing, and it doesn't go deep (pun intended) - it's surface, surface, surface... and surfaces get old, they tarnish and they crack.
Beautiful is definitely the best compliment. I like it when the Hubby calls me hot too...thinking about it he uses a really good balance of both. Aww, what a guy! :)
I'd be thrilled to be called any one of them. However, personally, I'd most like to be called sexy. I don't think sexy has as much to do with the way you look as the way you hold yourself. Of course if you put a little sway in your step it helps. ;p
I think beautiful is a better compliment. Sexy is good too, but I'd rather be beautiful than sexy.
Sexy is more of an attitude, and hot is too superficial to be all that meaningful.
My husband agrees. We've had this conversation many times before. Pretty much anyone can be hot or sexy at one time or another with enough effort. Those are man-made qualities for the most part. Beautiful is natural and longer lasting, and I think it has more to do with the inner person than clothing or makeup.
See? I'm glad I represented the female perspective well. I was like, "Well, I'd rather be beautiful, but everyone likes knowing their man thinks they're sexy."
I'm glad I was right.
I'd go with beautiful or sexy. "Hot" has a tendency to fade IMHO. As for sexy....
Well I think women like Sophia Loren and Tina Turner have pretty much shown that "sexy" doesn't necessarily fade. It's all about attitude.
I think beautiful is the best compliment over being sexy. Sexy can be taught to someone in the way they dress of the way they walk. If you are beautiful you can look this way with makeup and a nice outfit or just in your pj's hanging out.
I wouldn't mind either, though I think beautiful has deeper meaning. You might be average in looks but if someone thinks you're beautiful, it's because they see beyond the physical.
Of course I'd much rather be sexy than the klutz I am, plus I wish I had the attitude to pull it off sometimes.
Um, you'll have to ask Shannon & Michelle their thoughts on Scarlett. Radically different than yours *g*
Um...depends on who's telling me.
My friends are welcome to tell me all three, but beautiful is probably the best. More about how they see me on the inside. ^_^ Hot or Sexy are terms used when I dress up, so more of a "you're look hot in that dress" or "woo, looking sexy today."
Guys...go away. I don't want to hear any of it from men. When I hear these words, I have these after thoughts.
Beautiful - What do you want?
Hot - No, I'm not interested.
Sexy - I'm not interested in stupid perverts.
I'd much rather be called beautiful than hot or sexy. Hot or sexy is great, but it's more of something you can turn on/off; beauty implies something more intrinsic.
Beautiful or sexy. But I think beautiful is more of a compliment. My husband uses both and I love both :).
Beautiful.
I'd also go with most and say beautiful is the best. It's forever and you can be beautiful on the inside too. It's kind of hard to by hot or sexy on the inside - it's more of an external compliment
This is a very interesting question and one I've given lots of thought to and observation.
I believe guys use the word hot to mean beautiful. What I mean is, HOT is a guy word, beautiful is a chick word, but they are sort of the same thing, and I believe guys will use the word hot to each other about women, and they'll use beautiful more often in mixed company. We may need some male subjects to answer this!
Beautiful. Definitely beautiful. Hot is... momentary. Sexy is pretty great, though. I wouldn't mind that one, too.
Hmm...I'd have to say I'd take any of the above...man I've been single for too long. LOL!
Ashwarya Rai is probably the most unbelievably gorgeous woman out there in this world. I'd love to look like her, even if it was just for a day. :D
I'd rather be beautiful. :o)
Definitely beautiful. :)
Okay, I asked my husband which one he considered to be the best compliment to describe a woman and he thinks sexy is the way to go. According to him sexy means you are beautiful and hot. So there you go. I personally would have gone with beautiful.
Beautiful is when you see past "hot" and "sexy" and see the true value of the person beyond the flesh. Being beautiful holds more meaning when looks fade and there is still a soul inside the shell worth loving.
